Client brief, challenges & solutions

The clients asked me to support them throughout every stage of their new build. Because the project is located in Sicily, one of the ongoing challenges has been navigating language and communication across borders. I’m also frequently consulted on architectural decisions—such as the pitch of the portico roof, interior and exterior window-sill detailing, gutter design, and overall window placement—which allows me to help ensure that the house’s architectural features align seamlessly with the interior vision

Joanna Brown Interiors provides full interior architecture and renovation services throughout Switzerland, with a focus on Vaud and Geneva. Our renovation projects often involve rethinking spatial layouts, improving flow, and enhancing natural light while respecting the existing structure. From structural changes to bespoke joinery and finish selections, we manage renovations with a holistic vision, ensuring that architectural decisions and interior design work seamlessly together.

APARTMENT RENOVATION - T.O.

Client brief, challenges & solutions

The project came with major hurdles—including securing permits despite neighbour objections, addressing flooding during construction, replacing the project manager due to unsafe electrical work, increasing the ceiling height, and converting the garage into a full kitchen. Each challenge shaped the project and strengthened the final design.

Kitchen Island update
The kitchen of this rental apartment looked dark and outdated.
The bar from the 80's was too high, but had a lot of storage. I decided to shorten it, so it could also be used as a work station and added some lights.
Now the kitchen not only gets more sunlight but is also welcoming, because it does not have the triangle giving you a sensation of "you are not welcome". I took the opportunity of repainting the ceiling of the room white to make it feel and look more spacious. Big impact with a small budget.
